Travel: Borneo Highlands Resort

If you live in Kuching and you are looking to get away from the city for the weekend, Borneo Highlands is the place for you. It is about an hour drive off the Kuching - Serian Road, if you take the main road through the small town of Padawan. From there you will pass by Semenggoh Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre. There are a few ways of getting there. But the main road is the best choice if you do not want to get lost.

The entrance ticket per adult is RM8 (for Malaysians) which is paid at the first guard house. Not so sure about the International price though. It is advisable to drive a car that is powerful because it is about a 8km drive up a steep and winding road.

When you arrive at the second guard house, you shouldn't have to pay any extra charge if you're driving a car. Also, do not park at the parking lot the guard tells you to park at. Just drive straight up the hill. It will be maybe another 15 to 20 minutes drive before you arrive at your destination.

Do not make the same mistake we did, which is listen to the guard and park where he told us to. Then, we had to walk up the rest of the way which took us a good 2 hours or so. It was a nightmare. The up side was it was only a day trip and we didn't have anything heavy to carry except for an umbrella because it was raining. Quite heavily I might add.

By the time we arrived at the resort, we were starving and extremely dehydrated. Luckily the food there was edible and quite good. Or maybe we were too hungry to the point that anything would have tasted awesome. The service was okay. Though, we do not know why the waitress and front desk looked at us weird and didn't answer some of our inquiries. Only the bell boy was polite and was willing to help us out with directions.

Thank goodness he agreed to drop us off at the car park where we had left our car and we didn't have to walk all the way back down. But before that, we went to check out the golf course and got some cool shots before departing this hard-to-find resort.

In conclusion, getting to and from this resort is hard work. Especially on the way down. While wet and slippery. The brakes will be your best friend.
